So, life has gotten pretty interesting since having 2 kids. Not that Blaire was not exciting and interesting enough on her own, she just has so many more things that make me stop and ask, "where did she come up with that?" Not to mention some of the stuff her daddy has said too; but we are going to assume his "hmm" statements are do to lack of sleep or stress at work.
Story #1 Blaire was sitting in a chair, very still, watching a video one night while my mom and mother-in-law were fixing dinner. I was feeding Mason and who know what Jon was doing or if he was home from work yet. Anyway, I went to get her when it was time for dinner and she slid off the chair and immediately collapsed. She looked up at me and said "oh no, my legs are broken. They aren't working anymore." I assured her they were not broken, they just fell asleep. She quickly replied, "I'm not asleep, I'm awake Mommy!"
Story #2 She has a dog that barks and walks that she has named Figaro. She often refers to Figaro as her best friend or her Becca puppy. One day I was feeding Mason and I could hear her saying "now stay here until I get you. No tantrums." Then I heard a door close. She came in my room all smiles and said, "Mommy, I spanked Figaro and put him to bed and he throws no more tantrums." Then she left, opened her bedroom door and said, "Figaro, you ready to stop throwing tantrums?" It was so funny, but so realistic. This definitely made me rethink how to respond to her tantrums.
Story #3 (This is a Jon story, so if you just want to read about Blaire skip to #4). One day Jon and I were having a heated discussion about how I needed some more of his time and help around the house since our moms had left and I was having to actually cook meals again. For those of you that do not know Jon's extreme work hours, he gets up at 4, leave by 5:30 for work and is very rarely home before 6:30 at night. This makes for a long day for him and for us especially that days Blaire wakes up at 6. During this argument he told me he did not understand why there would EVER be a dirty dish in the sink. Really? Really????
Story #4 While preparing Blaire for the arrival of Mason, we showed Blaire pictures of her as a newborn. In the ones of her first bath, she noticed that there was something on her belly. We told her it was her umbilical cord. So she lifted up her shirt and exclaimed, "Oh, no. what happened to it? I lost it." We told her it fell off, and she took that as a good answer and we went on. Well, once we brought Mason home, all she wanted to do was look at his belly-cord. She loved looking at it for some reason. When it fell off, she was so worried. She asked, "did it hurt him," "where did it go" will it come back." Every now and then she still asks, "Where's Mason belly-cord?" To which I reply, "it fell off, but he is okay." She then asks, "he not have a belly-cord anymore?" So I say, "no, all gone." and that is it, she is over it until she notices it at the next diaper change.
story #5 Blaire was helping me give Mason a bath one day when he was about a month old. Up until this point, she had pretty much bathed her baby while I bathed Mason, but this time she wanted to help. Probably because it was his first bath in the tub instead of the sink. As we were washing him, she pointed between Mason's legs and asked, "what's that?" So I told her it was his penis and she said, "oh, his peanut." I said, "yes, his penis." She said, "that's so silly. he has a peanut." When Jon got home, she ran to the door and said, "Daddy, Mason has a peanut." Needless to say, Jon was a little perplexed for a moment, but then I explained the situation.
Story #6 Blaire goes to preschool two days a week. She loves her teachers and her friends. After having Mason, I did not take her or pick her up for a month thanks to our moms and Allison. When I finally took her, she was so excited. I was carrying Mason in the car seat because she wanted to show her teachers Mason. We got to the classroom and she began telling everyone and anyone that would listen, "Look! Look! It's Mason." and she would point and drag people and kids over to look. Then Owen arrived. She adores Owen and she really wanted him to see Mason. Owen however, wanted to play and did not have time to look at Mason. Blaire went over to Owen and kept repeating, "Look Owen, it's Mason." "Come on, Owen, come look. It's Mason." She followed him around the room until he finally came over. Poor Owen, I think he finally came over just to get Blaire to stop harassing him.
Ah, the great things kids say and do.
